TCSAR supports "Scout O Challenge" at Bastrop State Park - Monday, February 01, 2010

On Saturday, January 23rd members of Travis County Search and Rescue (TCSAR) were at Bastrop State Park in support of the "Boy Scout O Challenge".   1,500 Boy Scouts of all ages were competing in an Orienteering challenge throughout the park.

Working with the organizers, Steve and Carolyn Nelson, and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Rangers, TCSAR members were on hand to answer questions from spectators and Boy Scouts about Search and Rescue.  Our Command Trailer was open for all to view and our K9's were happily greeting everyone.

At one point, the members of TCSAR mobilized to provide Search and Rescue assets for a missing 10-year old Boy Scout.  20 minutes before the assets were deployed the Boy Scout was found along a park road by a Boy Scout leader.  Steve Nelson and the Park Rangers were impressed with the professional and calm leadership displayed by TCSAR members.

Thanks to all the TCSAR members for their time at this event and to our K9's -- Chopper, AJ, Gilly, Lobo and Xena were awesome ambassadors.

A special thanks to Rhywnn, a TCSAR paramedic, for helping a Boy Scout with a minor eye injury.
