Scott Freund, missing boater, recovered. - Monday, March 01, 2010

Scott Freund was recovered from Canyon Lake, Texas (Comal County) on Sunday, Feb 28th.  Travis County Search and Rescue members were on scene when a volunteer sonar team, Dennis and Tammy Watters of Team Watters, and a game warden with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department recovered Scott Freund.  We'd like to recognize the efforts put forth by the volunteer Search and Rescue teams (Team Watters, Texas EquuSearch, RP Flight Systems and the San Marcos Area Recovery Team) and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

The Freund family is setting up a memorial fund to help educate people about boater safety.  Details about the fund will be posted to the Facebook page, "Please Pray for Scott Freund and Family."

It was an active week for Travis County Search and Rescue (TCSAR).

Our partner organizations, Search Dog Network and Alamo Area Search and Rescue, requested help for a missing person at Canyon Lake in Startzville, Texas located in Comal County.  TCSAR has water certified cadaver K9's that can be deployed to assist with missing persons.  Working with Park Rangers from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and coordinating efforts with the San Marcos Area Recovery Team, TCSAR spent 3 days searching Canyon Lake to assist in the recovery of Scott Freund.  As of last notice, recovery efforts are still underway.

In another effort, two TCSAR members and a K9 were in San Antonio to assist the San Antonio Police Department and Alamo Area Search and Rescue to help with locating evidence in a landfill search.  For more information:  http://www.ksat.com/news/22599226/detail.html

TCSAR members attend Helicopter Landing Zone class - Saturday, February 13, 2010

On February 13th, several members of Travis County Search and Rescue and K9's were on-hand at a Helicopter Landing Zone Safety Training class.  This was the 12th year that this class was organized and held by the Motorcycle Special Events Team (www.mset-tx.org).  This class is available to First Responder agencies such as emergency medical personnel, fire department personnel, law enforcement personnel, and search and rescue teams.  Organizations such as Star Flight, PHI STAT Air Georgetown and theAustin Police Department were invaluable in their instruction and answering questions.  Despite heavy morning fog, weather cleared up enough for two helicopters to land.
